Efrain Villarreal Jr

Mr. Villarreal is a RGV native — born in Brownsville, Texas and raised in Harlingen, Texas.

Efrain graduated from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley where he completed his undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice. During his final year of college, Efrain discovered that he wanted to focus his professional career on helping children who had experienced abuse or neglect.

He started his career with the Texas Department of Family Protective Services (DFPS) where he served as a Case Manager for their family-based safety services department.  After spending several years with DFPS, Mr. Villarreal went on to work for the BCFS Common Thread program as a Community Advocate. While working for BCFS, he was promoted to the Community Advocate Supervisor position where he oversaw a statewide outreach team that focused on training individuals on identifying survivors of sex trafficking in their area.

He is currently employed with IDEA Public Schools where he serves as the Regional Manager of After-School Programs and supports eight IDEA Campuses in the RGV. Efrain enjoys continuing to serve their youth in this new capacity by helping his team provide fun, safe, high quality after-school programs.

When he’s not working, Mr. Villarreal likes to travel with his wife, play basketball, fish, and exercise.
